Something that I wish I didn’t do on cold, rainy days: picking out the most boring outfit ever. I’m talking a plain, boring sweater, jeans, boots, and a scarf. Think Velma from Scooby Doo. Okay, I know she wears a skirt, but she was the first person who came to mind.
I have many pretty, unique, and glam pieces in my closet. But do I really want to wear them when it’s freezing outside? No. And usually not even when it’s not freezing. But I have been trying to force myself to embrace stylish dressing even when I don’t feel like it…because when I do put that extra effort in. I feel so much better about myself.
This outfit is the perfect example. I reached for this super soft, oversized sweater and stopped myself before pulling out the basic old black skinnies. No, no, no.
A trick that has worked for me when I feel uninspired and stumped? Hold your first chosen clothing item up against opposite pieces in your closet to find the perfect match for your mood and the weather (for example, your chosen sweater to be paired with bottoms, or vice versa).
I wouldn’t have otherwise thought to put these two pieces together, but they literally match perfectly. It might seem so simple to hold up an item to your other items in your closet, but I promise you will find new outfits to mix and match.
I’m happy to report that I stayed warm and still felt chic in this monochromatic ensemble.
How do you put your colder weather outfits together?

Lynn
