I love it when a new season arrives because it means you get a clean slate and an opportunity to reinvent yourself โ and your wardrobe! Reinvention has been on my mind a lot lately in many different senses of the word from my closet to my hair (more on that later this month!) to my lifestyle. Maybe it’s because the New Year is coming?
The fall runways were filled with oversized apparel. And I LOVE it! It is easy to go overboard with this trend, but styling oversized pieces the right way is key. The answer to mastering this trend is to really understand proportions, and your own body shape. My favorite for the winter season is the oversized sweater. How to wear it, and other oversized pieces:
The Oversized Sweater
Oversized sweaters are SO cozy and lend a more laid back and effortless look than tighter fitting tops. To neutralize the look and keep things balanced, pair a sweater with a horizontally striped skirt (or in my case, a pleated skirt) or a pair of skinny jeans.
The Oversized Ruffle
The ruffle trend has come back in a BIG way! I love combining an oversized piece with an oversized ruffle…because I’m obnoxious. Little ruffles? No. I mean, why not embrace ruffles in entirety? Balance huge ruffles out with slimmer fit opposite pieces.
Oversized Accessories
Not sure about wearing an oversized clothing item? Opt for oversized jewelry. I LOVE a good, huge hoop earring. To quote Khloe Kardashian: “The bigger the hoop, the bigger the hoe.” Ha! I think about this everytime I put hoops on. Other oversized accessories to try: a large structured bag, a wide belt with a large buckle (ahem, Gucci!), or a hat of epic proportions. Let your accessories do the talking!
How do you feel about the oversized trend? What are your favorite oversized pieces to wear?
