Now that fall is almost here, it’s time to pack up the Chardonnay, Riesling, and light wines. If you’re like me, you love spicy & floral wines. I’m not a fan of bitter, (who is?!) light, or fruity reds. Whenever Jeff and I go wine tasting, he makes fun of the pourers who are ‘out there’ with their descriptions. For example, we had one host tell us that the wine he was pouring “has hints of leather with a smooth finish”. LOL! As I was writing my descriptions below, I caught myself getting a little cheesy, but really, how can you not when you’re describing a flavor?
One: Freakshow Cabernet
The best way to describe this wine is…rich. It’s so rich yet smooth. It has the best of all flavors from spicy to fruity to floral…but not overpowering.
Two: Bogle Essential Red
Bogle winemakers brought together four varietals to create Essential Red: Old Vine Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Syrah. The wine is easy to drink with just about any food. Go for this one if you’re looking for a red lovers’ gift!
Three: St. Amant Touriga
If you like spicy and/or floral wines, GET THIS. It is my favorite floral red I have ever tried. It is richly textured and not bitter at all.
Four: Caricature Old Vine Zinfandel
This old vine zin is very fruit forward with a hint of spicy-ness. So yum!
Five: Ravenswood Old Vine Zinfandel
Can you tell I have a thing for Zinfandels? This one is packed with a jammy flavor with hints of vanilla and spice. The biggest plus is that it’s very accessible – I see it at most stores including Target!
What are your favorite reds?
Xo,
Lynn
