Today’s post is brought to you by a recent funk that I had been in, and I was desperate to snap out of it ASAP. I’m sure you’ve had days like this, yeah? Sometimes it happens for what seems like no reason.
I want to share all of the things that I do to snap out of it quickly. Before I get into it, I’m not implying that I am a professional when it comes to therapy or counseling. I don’t have it all together, but these are methods that really help.
♡ Journal
Writing your feelings down can help you process what’s really going on. I love The Morning Pages as it allows for your stream of consciousness to flood out onto the pages. Being completely honest while you write is a must so go ahead and purge your feelings, even if they surprise you or seem trivial. By the end of a good writing session, I usually discover what it is that is bothering me and then I list out solutions. List out your action items. Trust me when I say that this will energize you and comfort you.
♡ Treat yourself
To get very specific, try treating yourself to something that you normally would not do on this particular day or particular time. We all get so used to the same routine each day. When I’m in a funk, I go out of my way to do something fabulous and different. For example, say it’s a Tuesday night, and you’d normally be eating dinner at home with no other plans. Instead, go out to your favorite restaurant and order your favorite cocktail or dinner. It’s unexpected and feels so fun to indulge, even in a small way.
♡ Exercise
Sometimes a funk can be induced by not taking care of yourself. A shitty diet, no exercise, and little sleep can totally do it. Forcing yourself to go and release some endorphins by exercising helps to snap you right out of it. They do say that exercise can be just as effective as anti-depressants! My favorite exercise to do when I am in a funk is yoga. The clarity gained from doing yoga is just amazing.
How do you snap out of a funk? Please share!

Lynn
