I’m writing this post because the past year’s theme for me has been to focus on the positive. It is so much more energizing and powerful to just be positive.
If you think of yourself as a Negative Nancy, think about how it serves you. What does it do for you? It really does come back to you – am I right or am I right? When you are feeling negative, stressed, depressed, or just having a bad day, you’d want positive people surrounding you…not people who make you feel even worse.
Here is what I have learned on the topic: when someone comes to me and tells me about a negative situation, or is cynical about something, it is so easy to go down the rabbit hole with them. I am so guilty! HOWEVER, guiding the conversation into a more positive light does wonders. Think about how you can respond with a positive. It helps you and hopefully, the other person.
If you have a negative people in your life that make you feel overlooked, unloved, etc., remind yourself that you are choosing to let that person make you feel that way. You know that quote: “you allow what you tolerate”? The key is to take their power away. This takes practice, but the more aware you are, the easier it gets.
