You may or may not have noticed that this little blog of mine took a little long hiatus. I went through what has been one of the most trying times of my life. My home flooded in December, and all of my floors, two ceilings, and four walls were torn down in order to avoid mold damage. The construction to repair the demolition took a very long time, and in the process my sweet kitty Daisy couldn’t take the stress of not having her normal home and she stopped eating. She was diagnosed with liver failure and her doctor advised me to prepare myself for the worst. Not having my home or any say how long it’d be until I’d have my home back with the combination of my very sick baby girl was a real test to my sanity. I’d heard that construction can be a big headache, a test to marriages and relationships, but I didn’t realize just how true that was until I went through it. A miracle occurred, and with her amazing doctor, medication, and some yummy food, my sweet girl started to heal just when I as preparing to say goodbye. I am so happy to say that she has made a 100% turn around and is back to normal.
My home is done after nearly 70 days of chaos, and I am slowly making changes to each room – the house definitely needed a cleansing of the spirits and a revamp especially to match the beautiful new floors.
My first project is this glam DIY IKEA coffee table makeover. On a side note, this statement immediately makes me think of “Ikea hacks” or “DIY hacks”; can we talk about how horrible of a word ‘hack’ is? Is anyone else with me? It gives me chills.
Now that that’s all off my chest, onto the luxe gold and marble table:
What you’ll need:
–Ikea Vittsjo Nesting Tables
-Base primer spray paint (purchased at Michaels)
-Gold spray paint (I used design master 24k gold, purchased at Michaels)
–Marble contact paper
Step 1: Assemble coffee table per instructions. Leave bottom piece and glass piece off.
Step 2: Put the assembled table sans glass top and bottom piece on a piece of tarp to protect whichever surface you’re going to spray paint on.
Step 3: Spray paint the table with the primer. Tip: spray the paint from about 6 inches away and turn the table on each side and spray directly above the table to avoid any dripping. Wait at least one hour to let dry.
Step 4: Repeat step 3 with the gold paint.
Step 5: Apply the marble contact paper to the bottom piece of the table per the contact paper instructions. Tip: Do not remove the paper from the backing before applying to the table surface. Go at one inch increments. I learned this the hard way!
Step 6: Put the glass piece in and voila!
